A spoiler is a term that refers to a phrase or any element of information that gives away the outcome of a work of fiction, i.e. Snape killing Dumbledore or something like that. Because enjoyment of fiction relies on the element of uncertainty and suspense that arises from it, getting spoiled by someone else regarding the outcome of a soap opera, or who will be killed in the end of the video game's storyline, is something that people fear about whenever we read, watch or play something.
